Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 A cord of three strands is not easily broken..
Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor.
10 For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls,
For he has no one to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie down together, they will keep warm;
But how can one be warm alone? 12 Though one may be overpowered by another, two can withstand him.
And a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

Our culture boasts about being a loner. I can do it myself! You hear about the self-made man so often. People work from home during the day so they don’t see anyone. We text rather than talk. Our society is going in that direction. Is that a good thing? Are we meant to be alone? God didn’t think so! In Genesis 2:18, it says “18 And the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him.” So we were designed to have a comparable helper. Things always go better with help.

Today’s verse teaches us that it is better to work with another because there will be a good reward for their labor. My expression is that two people working together will accomplish as much as five people working alone. There is synergy in teamwork. There is also safety in numbers. Two can stand back to back and protect themselves. But teamwork also makes me think of marriage. This is the ultimate partnership. The two shall become one flesh. That was the Lord’s design. He knew that two are better than one. How about you? Are you aware that it is better not to be alone? Aside from the human companionship, God is always with you. You are the apple of His eye and He always keeps you in His view. So what position will you take? Are you better being a loner or do you want to share your life with someone? Do you have really close friends? Is there someone special in your life? Do you know your Lord well? If not, He is ready and waiting to meet you. You, your spouse and your Lord are a cord of three strands that is not quickly broken.  In fact, the bond with your Lord will never be broken. He will love you forever. Give Him that chance, will you?

Lord, thank You that You created a helper for us and that You are always with us. With You, all things are possible. Help us to be in fellowship with others and to live our lives according to your design. Thank You that we have You to help us. Thank You that You have a special someone ordained for us so that we will not be alone. In Your name we pray!
