Day 4 Who’s your Daddy?

Genesis 1:26-27 (NIV)
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Do you look like your parents? I do! I once dressed as a librarian for Halloween and it is amazing how much I look like my Mother. I see my Father in my mirror as well. You probably act like your parents in some ways as well. Do you think this is a coincidence? Wouldn’t it make sense that you would acquire traits from parents and their influence?

Zig Ziglar quotes Mamie McCullough who was also a motivational speaker as saying “Look at your thumb and remember that You are really thumb thing!” We all need reminders of the good God has put in us because this world is always trying to tear you down. I look at my pinky; it looks exactly like my Dad’s. It makes me think of him and smile. Much of what I face daily discourages me. All the bad news, the bombings, the lies, the cruelty of mankind to one another are depressing. It is hard to stay positive. Zig says “When the outlook is not good, try the uplook! It is always better.”

God has created us “in His image; in His likeness.” Therefore, He has put the qualities of His character into us in whatever small amount. You have the seeds of Almighty God and His greatness within you. He created you that way. He also said you were to have dominion of all else He created. You were destined to lead creation. Now think of that as being a steward over God’s creation. You are responsible for its welfare. You were not made to be a tyrant but to take care of creation in the way its Creator would do.

Father, thank You that You have made us the way we are for a reason. Reveal the reason to us and guide us in Your ways. Help us reach our destiny. Let us show Your characteristics along the way. In Your name we pray!
