December 13 Who is Your Superhero?

Revelation 5:5 (NKJV)
But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals.”

Who is your Superhero? Who do you know that has powers above and beyond that of mere mortals? The entertainment industry has no shortage of heroes they send our way with one more super than the next. But none of them are real. My hero is the Lion of Judah. Proverbs 30:30 ESV says “The lion, which is mightiest among beasts and does not turn back before any;” My hero is not afraid of sin or death or anything else in all creation. Exodus 14:14 (NKJV) says 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” He will be my vindicator.

Jesus has many names given Him throughout the Bible. Lion of Judah is just one. In Revelation, His return is described to us. Jesus first appearance was as the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world. His return will be as the Lion of Judah to judge the world. Meek and mild will not be words used to describe Christ, the King of kings, this time. He will come in glory and majesty and power and will take unto Himself His own and destroy all evil. He will create a new world; a New Jerusalem as described when He opens the seals of judgment.

Yesterday, we went to a Christmas party run by Foster and Adoptive Family Services with our 8 year old son. They had all types of activities there including face painting. One child was Spiderman. Another girl was a fairy princess and there were many other characters like the Hulk. As I watched and enjoyed the playing, I was given the thought of who is my Superhero? I thought about who is the strongest, the most powerful, the one who can do anything. It is my Lord, the Lion of Judah! He holds the keys to hell and death and will remove both of them from His own.

Spiderman can bind things with his webs. The Lion can loose the bindings of sin. Superman has x-ray vision. The Lion sees all things; nothing is hidden from His eyes. The Hulk can move large things. The Lion created those things. Ironman can fly. The Lion of Judah is already everywhere and has no need to travel. Yup! My hero is better than them all. For my hero, while coming in power and glory, also comes in love. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16). What superhero has ever done that? He is coming! He that gave Himself up for you is coming! He that loves you more than life itself is coming. And He is looking for you. Do you perceive Him? Will you receive Him? Your Superhero is coming!

Lion of Judah, come to us and take us to Yourself! Be our Superhero. Remind us always of all You have done and will do for the love of Your children. May Your mercy always precede Your power. Thank You that Your love comes before Your justice. Come Lord Jesus to those who eagerly await You! And put sin and death under Your feet and away from our lives. Draw us to You! In Your name we pray! Amen!
