February 13 Who is my help?

Psalm 121:1-4 A song of ascents.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains — where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip — he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.

Sometimes it feels like we are all alone. The grind of daily life takes its toll on us. We feel battered and bruised. It seems like the whole world is against us. When you try to face the world alone, it seems impossible.

David reminds us that we are never alone. The Lord is always there ready, willing and able to help. He never slumbers but watches to make sure you are protected. When things do happen, the Lord will use them for your good.

You are never alone! The Creator of the universe knows everything you face now and what you will face in the future. He promises He will never leave nor forsake you. He wants to help you. If you look to God, you will have more peace which lowers your stress. With lower stress, you can perform better. He watches over you looking out for your best interest. In fact, God watches over you at all times, waiting to help you with your needs.

Do you remember trying to learn to ride a bicycle? You had the concept of what to do but you needed those training wheels to keep the bike upright. They were your source of confidence while you mastered the steps needed to make riding possible. Then came the day you were going to forgo the crutch and really ride on your own. Your parent held on to you and ran alongside to keep you going. They were there to help you master the art of riding. They assisted as needed until they determined you were ready and then they let go. Often, they did not indicate they had let go giving you the opportunity to do it on your own. There came a point when you looked around to share your excitement to find you were riding on your own. With God, it is very similar. He is there when you need Him but He knows when to let go and let you ride on your own. He lets you use the talents He has given you.

God is with you in much the same way today. He is always there to lend assistance or answer a question. But He knows better than we when we should be riding on our own. It is a delicate balance to figure out when to ask for help and when to ride. How do you know? For me, I ask almost all the time. If a level of confidence develops in a decision, I know God has agreed. Otherwise, different thoughts come from my subconscious. At times, I formulate a plan and put it aside asking for input. I have been known to put a business plan in my Bible and wait on the Lord. If nothing comes, the plan is OK as it stands. The key may be the pause to allow God into the decision. Do you do that? Do you allow time for Him to speak? Maybe that pause would allow the One who neither slumbers nor sleeps to speak into your life. Today, be still and know He is God. He still speaks!

Lord, speak to Your children every day. Let us know Your will for our lives. Teach us Your ways and lead us down Your paths. Write Your story on our hearts You are our help! In Your name we pray.
