January 30 I never said it would be easy!

John 16:33 (NKJV)
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

In this world you will have trouble. There you have it. Not you might have challenges; you will face challenges. Nobody said change would be easy. The world is a difficult place and there are many things that come against us. But is that a bad thing? What would life be like if everything went our way? I know you would like to try that for a while, wouldn’t you? Truth is, it would be boring after a while. Also, we would not grow in our walk with God. When things come against us, they refine us or make us change direction. God can use adversity to lead you to your destiny. Adversity can be a roadblock that forces you to go a different way. We don’t like roadblocks though.

When things don’t go your way, how do you take it? Do you take your bat and ball and go home? Do you become grumpy like me? Well there are other options. These days, when it doesn’t go my way, I tend to look for reasons why. I ask God “what are you trying to teach or show me?” I am learning that it is not happening to me, it is happening for me! Some of the worst times in my life are not so bad when I look back on them. If this had not happened, I might never have moved from where I was. The saying is every cloud has a silver lining. I will go even further. The cloud itself may have shielded you from being burned by the sun.

I have a hat that says “Attitude is Everything!” Why would attitude be important? When things happen, do you react or respond? What is the difference? React is an almost automatic reaction to stimulus. There was not careful thought and planning. Response implies thought and consideration. It allows time for understanding the situation and giving a good and appropriate reply. You have thought about it and this would be the best reply. Attitude (peaceful or angry) determines response. What is your attitude? Do you always have to be right? Do you think you know more about the situation than others? Even if you have more experience, will the other person listen to you if you have a superior attitude? No they won’t. If you can be open to learning, God can teach you through every situation. Let him teach you. He will lead you to your best!

Thanks for Your warnings Lord. When trouble comes, please help us to be prepared. Give us Your peace so that we can respond rather than react! Remind us that You have already won and that You give us victory in You. In Your name we pray. Amen!
