The Lion of Judah

Ruth 4:13-22 (NKJV) Selected Verses – Descendants of Boaz and Ruth
13 So Boaz took Ruth and she became his wife; and when he went in to her, the Lord gave her conception, and she bore a son……” 16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her bosom, and became a nurse to him……. He is the father of Jesse, the father of David. 18 Now this is the genealogy of Perez: Perez begot Hezron; 19 Hezron begot Ram, and Ram begot Amminadab; 20 Amminadab begot Nahshon, and Nahshon begot Salmon 21 Salmon begot Boaz, and Boaz begot Obed; 22 Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David.

My brother would say “who would have thunk it?” Who would have thunk the Lord God would use the son of a prostitute to deliver the Line of David and on to the Savior of the world. In Matthew 1:3-6, we learn that Rahab the prostitute from Jericho was the mother of Boaz. One of Jesus names is “The Lion of Judah.” That is because He is a descendant of Jacob’s (Israel) son Judah, the leader of one of the twelve Tribes. Judah’s life was equally dysfunctional as he had a son through his daughter-in-law named Perez through whom the line of Jesus was created. The Lord can and will use any situation, no matter how bad it seems, to create His will for good. The Bible is full of foolish people whom the Lord redeemed anyway!

Have you made a lot of mistakes? Do you think your life is beyond redemption? Are you hopeless? Well there is Hope and His name is Jesus! In the story of Ruth, the Lord took a Moabite woman and the son of a prostitute and used them to save the entire world! Through their great grandson David, the throne of Israel was established forever as the Lord had promised. He told David that his throne would be eternal and many generations later, He seated Jesus on that throne. God uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things. Our Savior was born through the line of David. This is truly a love story! Redemption is given you through the Son of God; the descendant of Ruth. This is no ordinary story. It is the story of God’s love for you. Lift your face to your Redeemer and walk in His grace. In Jesus name I pray!
