Why won’t You answer my prayers?

John 14:13-14 (NKJV)
13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.

God says that whatever you ask in His name, He will do, doesn’t He? Why didn’t he answer my prayer? Are you sure you heard him? There are three possibilities: Yes, No or Wait. He may have said no. He may want you to wait until His timing is right. There may be others involved in your dream. Jesus tells us that the Father is glorified in the Son when He answers your prayers. Sounds to me like God really wants to bless you!

There are a few things to consider here. One key phrase is “ask in My name….” What does that mean? If you ask something in Jesus name, does that mean according to His plan and purpose? Most likely yes. Also, there is something called intercessory prayer where you pray for the needs of others. Usually, when you pray for others, it is good to ask that God’s will be done. That would be in His name.

We don’t always know what is best for us. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. We ask for a promotion when God wants us to leave that company and go somewhere else. We ask for no traffic when God wants to delay us so will avoid an accident. We ask for more income when God knows it we lead us away from Him. We ask for our Pastor to stay when God wants us to go to another Church. We don’t always know what is best for us. In many cases, God loves you too much to say yes to that prayer. God has a plan to bless and prosper you. It is like a tapestry interwoven with the lives of others. The Creator sees the front side with all the beauty. The created only sees the hanging threads and all the chaos. You have no way of knowing the pattern God is weaving. But He does. Trust Him. He can take your seemingly broken life and make it beautiful. Give Him the chance. Be patient and stay in faith! He wants what is best for you!

Lord God, thank You that You know what is best for us and You bring that about in Your plan. Teach us to ask for things in Your name. Let Your Spirit guide us daily toward our destiny. Help us to ask for things in Your name. In Your name we pray!
