2 Corinthians 4:6 (NKJV)
6 For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Would you agree that this is a dark world? Almost everywhere you look, darkness pervades. People are out for themselves. Brutality is a daily occurrence. Could it get any worse? Some say these are the end times. But does it have to be this way? Is there something we can do to make a difference?
Paul is speaking to us about the sad state of affairs of the world in which he was living. Things have not gotten better. Paul reminds us that we have the light of Christ in our hearts. We have been given what is needed to push back the darkness. God shone His light in our hearts. Paul reminds us that there is always hope in Christ.
Have you ever sat in a totally darkened room? If you light just one candle, its light pierces through that darkness immediately penetrating the veil. That single candle pushes back the shadows and shows the room. So how does that pertain to the darkness of this world? You are that single candle. You have the power to overcome the darkness. What’s more, you can join with others to shine your combined light. If we all shine God’s light together, the world can be like the noonday sun. God has placed His light in your heart. You have everything you need to overcome evil with good. John 1:5 says (NKJV) “5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” Darkness may not comprehend it but it sure is scared of the light! Evil flourishes in darkness. Light overcomes all of evil’s schemes. You can make the difference. Stand up for God and show the world His ways are better. Be a light in this world.
You are the light! God has placed His light within you and calls you to shine that light into the dark places. Matthew 5: 14,16 says “14 “You are the light of the world………. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Each day, you come against darkness. You have a choice. You can choose to shine your light and dispel that darkness. Go ahead! Glorify your Heavenly Father by shining the light He has given you. Be the light!
Heavenly Father, You are the source of all light. You spoke light into being and placed it within us. Help us to shine Your light into the dark places in our world. Let the radiance of the face of Christ push back the darkness and the knowledge of the glory of God through Christ guide us daily. Help us to shine! In Your name we pray! Amen!
