2 Kings 6:15-17 (NKJV)
15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What shall we do?”
16 So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, “Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
In this story, Elisha was being sought by the king of Aram for giving away his secrets. The king sent an army to surround the city of Dothan during the night and capture Elisha. In the morning, the servant goes outside and sees the vast army surrounding the city and he was freaked out. Elisha was not worried because he knew the Lord was with him. So much so, that the Lord sent horsemen and chariots of fire that were surrounding them on the mountains. They were ready to attack at the Lord’s command. The servant lacked faith that God would continue His care for them and so he could not see their deliverance. Elisha didn’t worry; he prayed! He remained in faith trusting God for the outcome. Do you trust God for the outcome?
I have a friend that is going through a tough time. She is facing challenges that can be overwhelming. When things get out of perspective, we tend to think they are impossible. In our conversation, she sounded discouraged. I am on a mission to encourage people. I want to remind them of all that God has in store for them. So I proceeded to share Elisha’s story of how the Lord was watching out for His own with her and reminded her that He is watching out for her as well. He is watching out for you too!
We tend to forget that God loves us and watches out for us. We need reminders. I am reminding you that the mountains that surround you (challenges seem like mountains) are covered with the horsemen and chariots of the Lord. Do you see them? They are waiting to come to your aid at the Lord’s command. Just ask Him for help. The army of the Lord is ready!
Lord, I thank You that You are always ready to come to our aid. I thank You that Your army is always close by in case we need help. I ask that You would open our eyes to see the heavenly forces You call into existence on our behalf. Help us to live in confidence knowing that You go out before us in glory.
P.S. Here is one more little tip as a reminder of the power of God. Whenever you go somewhere when you face a challenge, find yourself some double doors through which you can walk. When you do, walk in the center pushing both doors open to make a wide passageway. You need to do that because the horsemen and chariots of the Lord will require a wide berth to go with you! You are not going alone and on your own! The Lord’s army goes with you. He will work it all out for your good. Keep your eyes open and watch what the Lord will do.
