1 Peter 3:1-5 (NKJV)
3 Wives, likewise, be submissive to your own husbands, that even if some do not obey the word, they, without a word, may be won by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they observe your chaste conduct accompanied by fear. 3 Do not let your adornment be merely outward—arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel— 4 rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. 5 For in this manner, in former times, the holy women who trusted in God also adorned themselves, being submissive to their own husbands,
Peter is talking about submission to begin with and that usually brings out negative thoughts. It speaks to the definition of meekness which is anything but weakness. If you can get past the first line, you will discover the discussion of inner beauty. God holds a gentle and quiet spirit very special. That is the real focus.
Win others over without words is what we should strive to do. It is our conduct that is supposed to set the example. We should exhibit a gentle and quiet spirit that will attract others to us. When they see the fruit of the Spirit displayed in your life, they will want to know more about what you have that gives you such peace. That will open the door to discussion of the Good News. You see, that peace and gentleness are available to anyone who seeks the Lord. Who do you know that would benefit from a relationship with the Lord? How will you approach the subject? Wouldn’t it be easier if they were to ask you about your relationship? So instead of focusing on making yourself outwardly attractive with clothes and jewels and material things, why not work on making yourself inwardly attractive with peace, kindness, gentleness, self-control and speech that glorifies God? Be inviting without words. Smile! Be friendly. And then conduct your life with love as you were shown by Him who loves you more than you can ask or imagine. The One who did give Himself up for you. Be beautiful inside and out and let His light shine forth from you!
Lord, let the beauty of Your glory shine its light into the dark places in our souls driving out any darkness. Then, let that light shine outwardly, attracting those to whom You wish to speak to us and give us the words You want to say to them. Today, let revival begin and let it begin with us. In Your name we pray. Amen!
