Psalm 89:19-21New King James Version (NKJV)
19 Then You spoke in a vision to Your holy one, And said: “I have given help to one who is mighty; I have exalted one chosen from the people. 20 I have found My servant David; With My holy oil I have anointed him, 21 With whom My hand shall be established; Also My arm shall strengthen him.
Who is your champion? Do you have someone who stands behind you to encourage and protect you? God was David’s Champion and gave David the help, strength and skill for David to become Israel’s champion. There is a need for such a champion in our world today. A champion is an upholder, an advocate, a defender, a supporter, and one who speaks up for a person or a cause.
God is your Champion! He is the one who speaks up for you. You are all highly favored. He wants the best for you and works His plan to provide just that. But you need to let Him work His plan. So if God is your Champion, are you supposed to be someone else’s champion? It seems as God sets the example for us on how we should live. Therefore, you need to be a champion for others. You need to make others feel special. Remember their names. Be courteous. Treat others with respect. Show them they are important to you even if you don’t know them well.
When my nephews were little, I was very careful to show them both favor. One of the worst things we can do is compare people and circumstances. Comparison makes us bitter. What I did for one, I did for the other. I went on class trips. We babysat for a week while my brother was on a trip. I was involved. I always told them you are one of my two favorite nephews. As they got older, they figured out I only had two nephews. My answer was “that doesn’t change a thing! You are still one of my two favorite nephews!” They were both my favorites and still are today. Favoritism causes jealousy in relationships. Cain killed Abel. Joseph was sold into slavery. Favoritism is not pretty. But here is the thing. I am asking you to play favorites! Treat everyone as if they are special because they are! Make them feel important because they are! Help them to like themselves because they were made in God’s image and He does not make mistakes. Each person was formed as God wanted them to be. You are special! You are a Masterpiece! You are wanted! You are loved! The world will tell you different. But remember that you are God’s favorite you! Stand up tall, throw your shoulders back and live as the miracle that you are!
Thank you Lord that we are highly favored by You. You designed us as we are for a purpose and gave us everything we need to live according to Your plan. Help us to be the Masterpiece you created us to be today. In Jesus name! Amen!
