Ezekiel 37:4-6 (NKJV)
37 The hand of the Lord came upon me and brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord, and set me down in the midst of the valley; and it was full of bones. 2 Then He caused me to pass by them all around, and behold, there were very many in the open valley; and indeed they were very dry. 3 And He said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?”
So I answered, “O Lord God, You know.”
4 Again He said to me, “Prophesy to these bones, and say to them, ‘O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! 5 Thus says the Lord God to these bones: “Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. 6 I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.”’”
My friend David wrote me with this verse. Thank you David for reminding me what our God can do! Many times we face situations that seem hopeless. Our dreams have died. It doesn’t look like there is any way to revive the situation. But then again, we do not know what God knows nor can we do what God can do.
The book of Ezekiel is full of prophecy from beginning to end. God speaks through Ezekiel to the people of Judah in exile in Babylon after ignoring God’s word to them. They were in exile about 70 years so things looked hopeless. But with God, all things are possible. God speaks to Ezekiel and tells him to speak to a valley of dried bones and these bones came back to life as the whole House of Israel. Is there anything more hopeless than dried bones? And yet, the Lord God Almighty can bring them back to life.
What are you facing today? The end of a dream? The loss of a loved one? The loss of a job? Are you in a valley surrounded by dry bones? Well take heart. One word from the Lord can bring dead dry bones back to life. Considering that, what do you think God can do with your hopes and dreams? But you must believe in Him for it to take place. Lack of faith will bring lack of results. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see! (Hebrews 11:1) Do you believe? I mean, really believe that God can do these things? Without faith, these things are not possible. But when you believe, when you trust God, he will bring dead things back to life. He did it for Lazarus! He did it for Jesus! Why wouldn’t He do it for you? He who promises is faithful. And He loves you enough to give Himself up for you. That is how much He cares. He raised Israel from the dead and returned them to their own land. What do you need Him to do for you? Ask!
Father, Your power is beyond our comprehension. Show Yourself as the Lord God Almighty of Israel. Teach us Your ways and strengthen our faith in You. With You, all things are possible. May our prayers be bolder as our faith and trust in You grow. In Jesus name we pray. Amen!
