Genesis 27 Selected Verses (NKJV)
4 And make me savory food, such as I love, and bring it to me that I may eat, that my soul may bless you before I die.”……….
27 And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said:
“Surely, the smell of my son Is like the smell of a field Which the Lord has blessed.
28 Therefore may God give you Of the dew of heaven, Of the fatness of the earth,
And plenty of grain and wine. 29 Let peoples serve you, And nations bow down to you.
Be master over your brethren, And let your mother’s sons bow down to you.
Cursed be everyone who curses you, And blessed be those who bless you!”………..
33 Then Isaac trembled exceedingly, and said, “Who? Where is the one who hunted game and brought it to me? I ate all of it before you came, and I have blessed him—and indeed he shall be blessed.”
This is the story of Isaac blessing Jacob. Jacob stole the blessing from Esau as Rebecca, his mother, arranged. Both Jacob and Rebecca knew how powerful the father’s blessing was and is. Jacob’s whole future depended on receiving that blessing. Words are powerful. God created the universe, light, plants and animals and started time with His words. You bet they knew how powerful words are!
What words will you speak and to whom? Each day, you come in contact with so many people. Family, friends and coworkers plus all the people in between your destinations. Do you speak words of encouragement? How many of the people with whom you come in contact are hurting in one way or another? Which one lacks confidence? Which one has been verbally abused? Which one is afraid? What will you do to improve their situation? Speak words of blessing into the lives of those around you. Tell them they are loved. Tell them they matter. Speak to each person you meet and really listen. Ask your waiter or waitress their name. People like to hear the sound of their own name. You can be a one person encouraging machine. Do random acts of kindness! Put a smile on God’s face. He likes it when you bless others. Bless someone with your words today! You cannot be a blessing without being blessed by that act. Just as Isaac’s blessing indeed blessed Jacob, so your words can bless family, friends and even strangers.
Lord, You have blessed us in so many ways! You came to us to give us the blessing of Your presence and Your Son and spoke blessing into our lives. You offer us Your grace. Part of that grace is Your love and compassion. Help us to notice others and share Your grace with them. Lord, help us to be a blessing to those whom You love. In Your name we pray. Amen!
