Deuteronomy 31:8 (NKJV)
8 And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”
Many times, we go through challenges thinking there is no one to help and that we are completely on our own. When things get tough, others seem to disappear leaving us to fend for ourselves. But is that really the case? Are you really alone? Have you asked for help? I am weak in asking for help. Many times, I decide to do something without considering the schedules of those who could help. I don’t like working alone yet I set things up so that is how it turns out. And then, I complain! But am I really alone? There is One who walks with me who is closer than a brother who will never leave nor forsake me.
God tells us in Deuteronomy that He goes before us. That means He paves the way for our journey. He will be with us. That means that He is inside us through His Holy Spirit. He promises to never leave nor forsake us. That means we can count on Him to give us what we need when we need it. It also means His hedge of protection surrounds us. God’s promises are sure and He can be trusted. Therefore, we should not worry or fear because He will be our strength and shield! We can stand on His promises.
How are you doing at standing on His promises? Are you fearless? Do you walk as if you know God goes before you paving the way? Or are you like me, worrying all the time about how you will accomplish all that is on your plate? We tend to forget the Lord in our day to day activities. He can make things smooth for us in some cases and give us what strength we need in tougher situations. Yet we do not ask Him for either. What would life look like if we asked the Lord for guidance on which way we should go and what we should do? I am trying to pray about more things. Rather than going on my own instinct, I am asking Him if I should undertake a new challenge. When people ask me to participate in some ministry, I defer to prayer about what the Lord wants me to do. I think about the possibilities and then leave the decision for later after I have had a chance to give it to the Lord. He will let me know. If I have a sense of peace and excitement, He is telling me to go ahead. If I have doubts and questions, He is saying either wait or no. How do you handle the day to day things you face? Do you make decisions on your own or do you ask the Lord? Do you have discussions with your spouse asking for input? Do you have a Spiritual Accountability Partner? If you are alone, why are you alone? God said in Genesis 2:18 “It is not good for the man to be alone.” If the Creator of the universe says it is not good for us to be alone, shouldn’t we try to avoid it?
So why are you alone? Is it just your feeling or have you isolated yourself? Have you accepted the offers of others to help you? I have a friend whose husband, my best friend, we to be with the Lord in February. She reminds me that she appreciates all the help I give her but wants the opportunity to repay me by helping me. This is a foreign concept to me at this point but I am learning. I cannot do it alone. I need the Lord and I need those He has put in my life! What about you? Are you still trying to make it on your own? How is that working for you? Ecclesiastes 4:9 says “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work:…..” I have a saying which is “Two people working together can accomplish as much as five people working alone!” There is synergy which makes it all go better and smoother. Do you think that is what God meant when He said it is not good for the man to be alone? Why not do it God’s way?
Thank You Father that You walk before us, beside us and with us through all the twists and turns of life. Help us to feel Your Presence at all times. Remind us of Your concern for us and that You will be our Helper even when it seems no one is around. Teach us to count on You and ask You for direction. Most importantly, give us the patience we need to wait for Your answer to our questions. In Jesus name we pray! Amen!
