Deuteronomy 31:6 (NKJV)
6 Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.”
Do you worry when you travel? Will I get home safely? How will the trip be? You are not alone. These are the concerns of many a traveler. But after a week of hard work in another country, these may seem like larger concerns than average.
I’m not really a worrier but I do get those pangs of fear as I get ready to travel. Did I remember everything? There are many things that contribute. There is worry about safety. There is leaving behind friends. There is the work that not finished. It is bittersweet. I look forward to seeing my home and family but I will miss those with whom I have visited and labored for the past week. We have built relationships. Hopefully, I will see them next year, God willing. But you never know. I will see them again in Heaven though!
For people of faith, we know God goes before us and with us. Fear is a lack of trust in Him. It is human nature to experience fear. But you can reject it. When the world tells you that things can and will go terribly wrong, you can say “No!” I will not fear because God goes with me. In fact, I am never alone. The Lord will never forsake me. He is my strength and shield. So as we prepare for our departure from La Entrada, we shall not fear. Let us savor the joy of those with whom we visited, worked beside and served. And all the while, let us be thankful for the opportunity we have been given.
Lord, let an attitude of gratitude flavor and color everything we do. As we leave friends in La Entrada, give us peace in knowing we served in Your name to your people and we will see them again. Thank you for our brothers and sisters in Christ! In Jesus most precious name we pray.
