John 16:33 (NKJV)
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
We face many troubles and tribulations these days as many have faced for centuries. Wherever you turn, there are challenges. The news reports are mostly bad. It seems very discouraging. It can be overwhelming. A friend shared an expression his brother uses. He says he is not overwhelmed but he certainly is whelmed! I am feeling whelmed! And I may be close to the border of overwhelmed today.
In John, Jesus is speaking to His disciples about the events about to take place. He is going to be crucified and they will be scattered. He is concerned for their safety and that they will remain faithful. He has warned them about all the things that will take place. Now, He tells them not to worry because this is all part of God’s plan and it will all work out. Jesus has overcome the world. His love will triumph over evil!
Sometimes, we come to a place where things are crazy and we don’t know what to do. It seems there are no good choices. All the ideas we have present a down side we dislike. We are at a point where we don’t even know for what we should pray. Romans 8:26 says “Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.” At times, I am at the point I do not know for what to pray. Sometimes, situations come up that I don’t truly understand and with which I am not prepared to deal. Have you ever been in that type of place? Have you ever been in uncharted waters? It is scary. When you are in that place, the only thing that can get you through is your faith. He has gone before us making the crooked places straight and paving the way for us. So even if you do not know how to pray or what to pray for, you can call on Him to lead you, guide you and make your way joyous. You see, Jesus has overcome the world for us.
Thank you Jesus for all You have done for us. You overcame sin. You overcame death. You overcame the world for us! We don’t deserve it. We can never earn it. We can never pay you back. But we do accept your gifts gladly! Since You have overcome the world, could You help us to do the same as we want to walk with You. In Your name we pray! Amen!
