Luke 14:12-15
12 Then He also said to him who invited Him, “When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind. 14 And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you; for you shall be repaid at the resurrection of the just.”
15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, “Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!”
Sounds like what God does for us, doesn’t it? He offers us a seat at His table for which we can never repay Him. His glorious riches are beyond all we could ask or imagine.
What does all that mean to us? God loves us so much that He wants us to sit at His table with Him. Think of it. We are invited to sit at the Captain’s table so to speak. You have been invited to the feast. And what a feast it is! Please pass me another slice of grace. Can I have another piece of love? How about a bowl of care? For desert, you have a choice of compassion, mercy, kindness or respect. OK, you can have some of each. He loves you! He cares for you! He wants to bless you! Will you accept the blessings?
Father, we thank you for a seat at your table. You give us more than we merit. We don’t deserve it, we can never earn it and we can never pay you back. But we do accept Your gifts gladly. Help us to live in such a way as to bring glory to Your Holy Name. Help us to invite others to the table and make them feel welcome. Through Your grace and mercy we live. Teach us to extend that mercy to others. In Your name we pray!
