He is Coming!

Isaiah 40:9-11
9 You who bring good news to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” 10 See, the Sovereign LORD comes with power, and he rules with a mighty arm. See, his reward is with him, and his recompense accompanies him. 11 He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

Who is coming? What is the news? And why is this Good News? Isaiah tells us that He is bringing good news to Jerusalem as well as His reward. We could use a reward about now. Things are tense at a time when we are supposed to be joyous. We are supposed to be anticipating the coming of our Lord. Instead, people are arguing and focusing on things rather than relationships.

At this time of year, I struggle with the fact that Jesus is coming and the world is still deep in darkness. I am almost embarrassed about the condition of the world. And I have not cleaned up my corner. As if I could. I get down when I hear about all the purchases I could make to insure a Merry Christmas. It seems we have forgotten the meaning of Christmas. Isn’t it about Christ?

Yes, it is about Christ and what He came to do. He came to offer Himself as our Savior. He came to absorb all our sin, failure, disease and shame. He completed His mission by going to the Cross. And on that Cross, He said “it is finished!” By that He meant He had absorbed all our failures into His body and free us from all that baggage. He took the sin; we get the righteousness! That’s too good to be true, isn’t it? Yes it is but it is true. “For God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 Yup! He loves you that much. Enough to take all that trash in exchange for your redemption. By His stripes you are healed. You are the righteousness of God in Christ.

Lord, how can we thank You for all You have done? You said “it is finished”. And so it is. It is not about what we have to do; it is about what You have already done! No matter how dark the world still is, You are the Light of the world. Help us to shine Your light. For unto us a child is born; unto us a son is given. And you changed the world. Thanks! Come Lord Jesus come.

In Him,
