John 6:68-69 (NKJV)
68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
So you think you can do all things on your own. You don’t need anyone. You can do it yourself. Have you ever faced a challenge that was so large that you couldn’t see your way around it let alone find a solution? Have you ever faced cancer? I have heard the “C” word from my doctor. Fortunately, it was skin cancer and it was caught early. But my friend had breast cancer and it rocked her whole world. She was so distraught that she and her husband were paralyzed with fear. They could not think about a solution. Do you run toward God or away from Him in times of trouble? I wonder what people without faith do in a crisis? I run toward God. As Peter says, He is the One with the answers. Knowing God is better than knowing the answers.
Jesus had just fed the five thousand. After that, He walked on water to reach the boat with the disciples. It was becoming clear He was not of this world. He asked people to believe and follow Him. What He was asking seemed too difficult to understand or too costly to some and they turned away. But there were those to whom it became clear Jesus was the Messiah. Jesus asked the twelve if they were going to turn away also. Peter said “Lord, to whom shall we go?…….” The twelve were beginning to understand that Jesus was the Creator God. There is nowhere else you can go. He is the beginning and the end and everything in between. When there is nowhere else to go, what do you do? Do you rely on your own intellect? Are you the Captain of your own ship? Is it all up to you? I hope not! Jeremiah 17:9 (KJV) says 9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? Is that the desired source for your future? Do you really want to live in a world ruled by mankind’s heart and not God’s truth? Do you want to do it yourself? If following God and His ways seems right to you, how will you do that? Is He in your life? He is willing. Invite Him in. He will bring you comfort. He loves you!
Lord, thank You for being there whenever we need a place to turn. We can always count on You. Help us to know and trust You when things get tough. Also, be there in our joy that we might know every good gift is from You. In Your name we pray. Amen!
