Joshua 1:5-9 (NKJV) God’s Commission to Joshua
5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. 6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. 7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. 8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. 9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
What if you knew you had a Champion that was always looking out for you? No matter where you go, no matter what you do, this champion would watch your back. Someone who would support and encourage you in all you ways. Someone who would believe in you. What if that someone knew things about you that you did not even know yourself and knew what you were capable of doing?
Now that Joshua has taken the lead of Israel, God is speaking to him about what Joshua is to accomplish. Joshua has to lead two million unruly people who each think they know what is best. God’s purpose here is to strengthen Joshua and assure him that the Lord will be with him and not to be afraid. The Lord also tells Joshua that he will be successful and prosperous.
Well you do have that Champion. He loves you and knows how you were made and what you are capable of doing. He has a plan for your life. He has resources to put at your disposal. He has everything you need to succeed in the mission He set out before you.
Are you being all you were created to be? As God was with Moses and Joshua, He is with you! Nothing has changed. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. If you follow His ways, He will make your way prosperous and give you good success. Your Champion asks you to be strong and courageous because He knows the plans He has for you and they are plans to prosper you. To give you hope and a future! Be strong and courageous! Walk in His ways. Your Champion has your back!
Lord, You said You would always be with us. I believe you. Sometimes, we lose sight of you and draw back into fear. At those times, send Your Spirit to reinforce our faith. We know of Your great plans for us. Help us to live into those plans and be who You have called us to be. In Your name we pray.
