Psalm 112:4 (NIV)
4 Even in darkness light dawns for the upright, for those who are gracious and compassionate and righteous.
This verse tells us how the light dawns for the upright. Who is upright? Romans 3:23 tells us all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Isaiah says we all, like sheep, have gone astray. So none of us is righteous on our own. Are we gracious and compassionate? Not in our own power. You see, God is our light. He makes His face to shine upon us and be gracious to us. It is all Him. His grace alone makes us righteous. On our own, we cannot make it. From our point of view, it looks really dark!
No matter how dark it may appear, the light of God is coming. It is always darkest before the dawn. It may be Friday but Sunday is coming. Last night was the final session of GriefShare, a program I attended with my friend Christine. Her husband was my best friend as well as hers. It is a little over a year since Carmen passed and it has been a dark time. GriefShare has allowed us to see the light of the dawn of healing. While there is still the pain of our loss, there is hope. God is that hope. He returned from death and walked among us for 40 days to show us that there is life after death. From the Garden of Eden, God promised us good. Two thousand years ago, He showed us His plan. The offer still stands! Will you accept? The light of the dawn of Grace shines. Are you in its glow? Do you feel its warmth on your face? His grace surrounds you even at your darkest times. Although I felt I was walking through the darkness alone, His grace has dawned into my darkness. He offers the same to you. Will you take it?
Lord, thank You that You shine Your light into our darkness. Even as we walk through the darkness of this world, You shine the light of Your grace into our lives. Thank You for walking with us and lighting our way. In your name we pray! Amen!
