Deuteronomy 28 (NKJV) Selected
Blessings on Obedience “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:
3 “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country.
6 “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out……
8 “The Lord will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the Lord your God is giving you.
9 “The Lord will establish you as a holy people to Himself….. 10 Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the Lord…..You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. 13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them……
Curses on Disobedience
15 “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you:
16 “Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country…..
What will you choose? Do you want health, happiness and prosperity? Can you obey all the Commandments of the Lord? I know I cannot. As we enter into a new year, what do you want for yourself? The Lord promises He will bless you beyond all you can ask or imagine. And He who promises is faithful. Isn’t it time you put your faith and trust in Him? This is your year! What will you choose to do knowing The Lord God Almighty is with you?
Some of my friends say that this is the prosperity Gospel is not true. They make fun of those who preach a blessed life. Being blessed does not mean you will not have any issues. I am not into the Prosperity Gospel. I am into the Grace Gospel. When you follow the Lord, He will bless you more than you can ask or imagine. He longs to bless you. Will you receive what He offers?
Malachi 3 says “9You are cursed with a curse, For you have robbed Me, Even this whole nation. 10 Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” He promises more than you can hold!
So as a new year begins, what plans will you make? Will you consult the Lord when making those plans? Too many times, we make plans without consulting Him and then we ask Him to bless the plans. Don’t do things backwards. Invite the Lord into your plans. Proverbs 16:9 says “A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.” Will you let the Lord direct your steps? I hope so! I am asking him to direct mine. Can I pray that for you too?
Lord, thank you for bringing us to this day and this year. You said You would always be with us. Be with us in our plans. Let Your plans be the ones we follow for your plans will prosper us. Make this new year all it can be, In Jesus name we pray.
