Mark 12:17 (NKJV)
17 And Jesus answered and said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Render unto the IRS what is theirs. Why should we send them the money? They will just waste it anyway. Romans 13:1 (NIV) says “13 Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” The authorities that exist have been established by God. If God establishes the authorities, shouldn’t we obey them?
Today is the day we in the US have to file our taxes. It is time to render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. It is our duty to support the government that they may protect us and serve the least of these. Do you think they are the best choice for protecting the least of these? Instead of paying higher taxes, shouldn’t the followers of Jesus be stepping up to the plate and taking care of others out of the overflow of blessing God has poured out upon us? When the Church runs a campaign to benefit people, there are no management expenses or waste. All the work is done by volunteers who raise the funding necessary to provide the benefit. Do you get personally involved in serving others? Is this your calling?
Today, you have the chance to make a difference! God has blessed you in many ways. It is not always financial blessing that is needed. Some people are the ones who can write a check. But God also calls us to lend a hand. He asks us to share time, talent and treasure. Where are you being called? What gifts and talents do you have to share? Don’t sell yourself short. God values someone who is willing to take the time to listen to another and encourage them. Ephesians 4:11 (KJV) says- “11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers.” What are you called to do? Every gift is important. Will you use your gifts today?
Father, thank You for the gifts and talents you have given each of us. You have put a little of Yourself in every person. Help us to honor everyone as the child of God that they are. And in so honoring each person, help us to make sure they are cared for and valued. In Jesus name we pray.
