Joshua 1:8 (NIV)
8 Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
How are we supposed to live? Is there some way for us to know what to do? Why I’m glad you asked. God gave us a book He called the Bible. Some have said it is an acronym for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. It does tell us how we are supposed to live.
As you go through life, there are so many distractions. It is easy to get sidetracked. So how can we keep our focus on what really matters? We can remain focused on God’s Word, the Bible. Joshua told the Israelites to always be reciting the contents of the Book of the Law. He was speaking of the Five Books of Moses. We have 66 Books of the Bible now and they contain much wisdom. The best way to live is to know God’s wisdom through His Word and to follow what you know. James 1:22 (NKJV) says “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” We are created to follow His plan. He gave us the instruction manual. He also promised we would be prosperous and successful if we followed it. Do you want to be prosperous and successful? OK! Read the Book and do what it says! You don’t have to do it alone. John 14:26 (NIV) tells us “26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” We have help that will remind us of what we need to know and guide us in God’s ways. He will help keep the Book of the Law on your lips. Speak it too!
Thank You Lord for Your Book of the Law. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit who will keep that Book on our lips. May it lead us to be prosperous and successful and bring glory to You. In Your name we pray!
