January 19 Mindful of Grace

Jeremiah 31:33 (NKJV)
33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

In Evangelism Explosion, a course I took to learn how to make disciples, it taught that head knowledge of Jesus alone was not good enough. You had to accept Jesus into your heart. I have done that with great results. But, I have discovered, heart knowledge alone is also not enough. I have Jesus in my heart now. It is time to get Him back into my head. Grace needs to be in your head as much as in your heart. You’ll see why in a little bit.

Many of us, me included, do not achieve all they could because of head trash. Head trash like I’m not worthy. I’ll never be able to do that. I don’t have the talent. The accuser tells you that you don’t’ have what it takes. You’re not smart enough. You’re not good enough. You’re too far behind and many, many more. If you are truthful you do not deserve God’s grace. That is why it is called Grace! Grace is unmerited favor. You have the favor of God upon you and in you. You should be able to accomplish all things!

The Lord says He will write His law in our minds and on our hearts. Why did He say He would put His law in our minds? God’s law was given because of His love for us. His Grace is why He wants the best for us and His law is how He guides us to that best. God’s law is Grace. Therefore, He puts His Grace in your mind if you will let Him. We need to accept His grace into our minds to force out the head trash! Only when we believe we can in our minds, will we achieve the dreams God has put in our hearts. Believe and achieve!

Lord, it is by Your grace we grow into who You designed us to be. It is by Your grace the we live. By Your Spirit, guide us into the destiny You planned for us. Write the story of Your love on our hearts and let that story bring glory to Your Holy Name. In that name we pray!
