January 20 The Devil Made Me Do It!

Luke 10:17-20   17 The seventy-two returned with joy and said, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name.” 18 He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. 19 I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. 20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.”

Who knows who Flip Wilson is? If you said yes, you have just dated yourself as older (like me). Flip Wilson was a comedian who played Geraldine Jones on the show. This was a huge part of The Flip Wilson Show and was played by Wilson wearing women’s clothing. Some of “Geraldine’s” most famous quotes are, “The devil made me buy this dress!

Do you believe in Jesus? Do you trust Him? If Jesus tells you something, are you going to believe it? Do you believe in Satan? Some of you don’t believe in Satan and that he exists. In fact, a pastor of a Church I attended told me they did not believe Satan existed.

In our conversation, when I mentioned that bad things often come from Satan, I could sense these people backing away from me, even though not physically, because they did not believe Satan exists. Many ask why bad things happen to good people. Why do you suppose that is? God has a plan for good for you. Who is it that has bad things in mind for you? If Jesus said He saw Satan fall, shouldn’t you believe Him? Therefore, Satan is someone real and present and causes bad things in your life. It is his job to distract you from the plan God has for you. He causes you to doubt. He is probably responsible for most of your head trash. Do you have head trash? What do you think would help overcome your doubts? Focus on the Author and perfector of your faith and His plan for your life so you can avoid distraction. He will take you places you never imagined possible.

Lord, please wrap Your hedge of protection around us to keep away the evil one! You said You had a plan to prosper us. Please work Your plan for our good. Remind us of who we are in You. Our names are written in Your book of life by Your grace. Thank You! In Your name we pray!
