2 Kings 6:16-18 Elisha Captures Blinded Syrians
…16So he answered, “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” 17Then Elisha prayed and said, “O LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the servant’s eyes and he saw; and behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. 18When they came down to him, Elisha prayed to the LORD and said, “Strike this people [the Syrians] with blindness, I pray.” So He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.…
Have you ever come up against a challenge that looked overwhelming? You were afraid of failure because the odds looked heavy against you. In the natural, there was no way you could succeed. In your own power, it looks impossible. They key is you are not in your own power! You are not alone if you put your trust in God. In fact, you are never alone because He walks with you.
In the story about Elisha, a Prophet of God, the King of Syria wants to capture Elisha to prevent him from giving details of the Syrian attack plan to the king of Israel through his prophecy. There was a mighty force sent to capture Elisha. They were greatly outnumbered in the natural and it looked bad for Elisha and the city of Dothan. But Elisha had faith. He trusted God to care for him and God is faithful. Elisha’s servant was terrified but Elisha calmed him asking the Lord to truly open the servant’s eyes. When God did open his eyes, the servant saw “the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. God had His legions of Angels at the ready to attack the Syrians to defend Elisha because Elisha belonged to the Lord.
To whom do you belong? Are you a child of the Most High God? If so, don’t you think God will defend you? Why are you afraid? Throughout the Bible, in each story, it tells of God’s character and faithfulness. God always protects His own. Do you want that kind of power on your side? You may not see it but God is always working for good of those who belong to Him. He is making a way where you don’t see a way. He is leveling the hills and valleys. You will still face challenges but they will not overwhelm you.
Lyrics from the Mercyme song Greater:
‘Cause I hear a voice and He calls me redeemed when others say I’ll never be enough
And greater is the One living inside of me Than he who is living in the world
“Fear not, for I am with you.” Says the Lord! Move ahead with confidence for God has your back! God is for us! Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.
Those who are for you are more powerful that those who are against you. Lord, thank You that You are our protection. Thank You that You are on our side. Better yet, that we can be on Your side. Thank You that Your angels watch over us standing ready to defend us at Your command. And we know that Your command is always to protect Your own. Thank You that You call us Your own. In Jesus name we pray!
