November 17 What Shall I Call You?

Romans 10:13 (NKJV)
13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

What are the names of Jesus? And by what name do you call Him? Do you call Him Lord? Do you call Him Savior? Do you call Him friend? What does He call you? There are many names by which Jesus is known and they range from meek to powerful. He was the Lamb of God as well as the Lion of Judah. Which name fits into your life?

What does it mean to call on the name of the Lord? It means to have a relationship. It means to know the Lord and to be known by Him. It means to put your faith and trust in Him. When you do, He will give you His grace. Christ offers you life everlasting to be spent in paradise with Him. That is what it means to be saved. Many do not like that term “saved”. I wonder why? Is it not better than being lost?

You do not have to go through life alone. The One who created you is willing to walk along side you and help you navigate this world and bring you to the next. He knew you before you knew yourself and offers justice, grace and mercy for the journey. Although there are bumps in the road, the Lord will guide you through. He loves you and cares for you. He will work all things for your good. Looking forward in this life, things appear tough. But looking back, you can see the hand of God guiding and protecting you on the journey. Is it not better to have a companion on the journey?

Ours is not to judge but to love. We are taught that we will be judged with the same measure that we judge others. I cannot stand on my own merits. I know who I am. I have seen some of my deeds. I would rather stand on the righteousness given me by Christ. He offers His righteousness to you as well. Will you take it? There is a judge whom we will all face. Do you want to face Him knowing He loves and cares for you or as a stranger? Do you call Him “Your Honor” or “Abba [Daddy]”? He came as the Lamb of God last time. He will return as the Lion of Judah. The offer is on the table. Take hold of Him who longs to take hold of you. Choose this day whom you will serve……But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)

Help us to serve You Lord because it is the best way for us to go! Service to You means love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness and self control. We want to live like that. Teach us Your ways oh Lord that we might know you better. Help us to do justly and to love mercy and walk humbly with you. In Your name we pray! Amen!
