Who do You say I am?

Matt 16:15-16 15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” 16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus was spending time with his disciples speaking with them about who He is and what others think about his identity. When he asks Peter who he thinks Jesus is, Peter reveals Him as the Christ. Peter knew who Jesus was and is. But did Peter know who Peter was?

How about you? Do you know who you are? Who are you in Christ? What do people say about you? Who do you say you are? If you were at your own memorial service, what would people be saying? What kind of legacy will you leave?

What do you say when you talk to yourself? Remember, words take on meaning when they are spoken. You need to be careful what you say about yourself. The biggest obstacle to accomplishing a goal is yourself. The battle begins in your mind. It is about what you believe. And those beliefs will translate into the actions you take or do not take. If you don’t believe you can do something, you can’t.  Whether you think you can or you think you can’t, either way you are right! So we have talked about what you say about yourself. But what does Jesus say about you?  He says you are a masterpiece, the apple of His eye, holy, righteous and redeemed. You are beautiful. You are His friend and He is yours. You are made in His image. You are loved. With all that going for you, why do you sabotage yourself? Why not believe God and what He says about you and live accordingly? It is your choice. Why not choose to be who you were created to be? God is pulling for you. I am pulling for you. I ask you to pull for yourself. You are special. You are valuable. You are His!

Lord, please reveal to us who we are in you. We see the beauty of creation and ignore all the beauty you have put in us. Bring people into our lives who support and value us. Help us to see ourselves through Your eyes. In Your name we pray!
