Why do you compare yourself to others?

Galatians 6:4-5
Each of you must examine your own actions. Then you can be proud of your own accomplishments without comparing yourself to others.  Assume your own responsibility.

I am not as good as Joe. I wish I had his voice. I wish I had her creativity. My question is what would you do with someone else’s talents if you are not doing all you can with your own? Theodore Roosevelt said “Comparison is the thief of joy.” Wishing for something someone else has will steal your joy. You were not made to use talents given to others. You were designed to run your own race. You were born in this place and time for a reason. It is your job to discover that reason and purpose. You will not figure that out if you keep trying to live someone else’s life.

Are you a parent? Have you ever compared one of your kids to another? Have you ever said “why can’t you be more like your brother?” Is that a question that will bring out the best in each child? Children who are compared grow up to compare and question themselves. Don’t let the “comparison thief” in to your lives.

Galatians tells us we can be proud of our accomplishments. God designed us to bloom where we are planted and to live with the gifts He has given us. When you try to use gifts given to others, it is like trying to put on size ten shoes when you have size twelve feet. It just isn’t going to work out well. Zig Ziglar says you were designed for accomplishment, engineered for success and endowed with the seeds of greatness. You are God’s masterpiece. Be who you were called to be. The Caller designed you to be great in the place He put you. Be wonderful! Be yourself! Be Happy! Be His!

Lord, thank You for creating each of us just as You designed us to be. Thank You for the gifts You have given us. Help us to use them to Your glory. Thank You that Your plan for us is for our good. Thank You that You call each of us by name and love us just the way we are. Help us to be who You call us to be. In Your name we pray!
