May 10 Who Loves Ya?

Proverbs 1:8-9
8 Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.
9 They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck.

Mother’s Day is a special time in our lives. It is a time to stop and consider all that Mom has done for us. Usually, a mother puts the needs of her children before her own needs and cares for them with everything she has to give. Such was the case in my life. I hope it was the same for you.

The Book of Proverbs is the Wisdom of Solomon. He was the king that asked God for wisdom above all else so God granted his request. Here, Solomon teaches us the value of our Mother’s teaching. One simple example is I know how to tie my shoes and tell time. Mom taught me that. We are taught that our Mom’s teaching will be a blessing to us. Who could disagree with that? My Mom is in her nineties now. I am blessed to still have her. One thing about a ninety plus year old woman though. What comes into the mind comes out of the mouth uncensored. Sometimes it is even rude. Once an adult; twice a child. I am in the awkward position of having to correct my Mom’s behavior. I do that by telling Mom “ that my Mom taught me that was bad behavior and that she needs to correct the issue she has caused.” She has a great deal of trouble arguing with her own teachings! She gives me this annoyed and bewildered look but has no rebuttal. It is comical at times. I never thought I would see my Mother speechless. By the way, I take after her in many ways.

Mothers are a blessing to us even though we may find them annoying at times. God ordained them to care for us and teach us things. A Mother’s love is special. They have hopes, dreams and expectations for you. They want what is best for you. They will do anything to protect you! They give you the core values and the love you will need to build a life of distinction. Honor her. Love her. Cherish her. You never know how long you will have her in your life. In spite of everything, she loves you. Honoring your Mom will bring the blessings of God upon you. Be blessed today and show honor to Mom on her day and every day.

Lord, You said that honoring our Mothers would bless us so we would live long in the land You promised. Help us to understand our Mom’s motive is to always help us do better. Lead us to Honor our Mom as she deserves. By Your Spirit, remind us of all she has taught us. Thank you for the blessing of our Moms. In Your name we pray! Amen!
