Ephesians 4:29 (NKJV)
9 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.
No unwholesome talk should come out of your mouth. Instead, we are supposed to use our words to build people up. Words are powerful. God spoke all of creation into being with words. Use your words to bless someone today!
Do you listen to the news? Are you enjoying the stories they offer? Everywhere you turn, there is more hate, cruelty and denigration. Our world is a dark place. What if you could change that? What if you could be the source of encouragement in your part of this world? You have the power and that power is the power of your tongue. James Chapter 3 talks about all the bad things that the tongue can do. What about the good things? You can speak blessing into someone’s life. You could tell them you are proud of them. You could say theirs was a great idea. You could say you appreciate them. You could say thanks for being there for me. So why don’t you? Also, what do you say to yourself? Do you celebrate your wins?
It is time for a change. We spend too much time on the bad news. Let us turn our eyes in a different direction. Let us look to the author and perfecter of our faith and ask Him what He sees in us and others. My Mom told me “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” I think there is a better way. Practice saying nice things. Look for the good in all situations and people. Speak blessings into the lives of others and yourself.
Lord, change the lens through which we look at the world. Give us your eyes to see things as You see them. You see what we can be rather than what we are. You see the great creation you have made. Help us to see ourselves and others as You see us. In your name we pray.
